Celebration of Inquiry lures thinkers to CCU

Coastal Carolina University is hosting a "Celebration of Inquiry".
The theme this year - "Memory, Place, Identity: Behind Us, Before Us, Within Us" - encompasses topics such as ethics in a time of cheating and fraternity hazings.

The conference integrates CCU classes with lectures and discussions, bringing together the student body for about 190 separate sessions from Wednesday night to Friday, Tomczyk said.

CCU also will get some thoughtful introspection as far as memory and identity, she said. The university is in its 50th year and has gone through many changes since classes started out of Conway High School in 1954, Tomczyk said.

Rushworth Kidder, founder of the Institute on Global Ethics, is the keynote speaker for the conference.

Kidder said his address, "The Guts of a Tough Decision: Moral Courage and How to Get," will discuss some of the ethical problems with which schools and universities are now wrestling.
