Several Boston University students living at 10 Gardner St. have been suspended from classes, according to Interfraternity Council Vice President Kyle Jaep, as university officials look into what occurred during a Sigma Chi fraternity party last year.
The party, which occurred in December, resulted in the arrest of two individuals. Jaep said he was unsure of the length of the suspensions for those involved
"I know they were suspended, I just don't know how long," said Jaep, a College of Arts and Sciences sophomore.
Jaep, a member of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity, ran Tuesday night's meeting in the absence of President Scott Fitzsimmons, a Sigma Chi member who could not conduct the meeting because he was suspended.
BU spokesman Colin Riley said the university is forbidden from commenting on the situation because of federal law.
Although the Boston Police reported "several hundred" people present at the December party, a Sigma Chi fraternity member who spoke on the condition of anonymity said there were about 150 people in attendance.
Reports stated that one of the arrested students was charged with the possession of marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms with the intent to distribute within a school zone, but the source said no one affiliated with the residence was charged with drug-related offenses.
During the IFC meeting, several representatives made reference to certain questionable circumstances surrounding the breakup of the party. Jaep said a television news crew was allegedly at the scene while police entered the premises.
"It wasn't a normal bust," he said. "It was like they were out to get someone."
The Interfraternity Council is attempting to alleviate the situation by holding a meeting with representatives from each fraternity on campus as well as Dean of Students Kenneth Elmore.
"The best situation would be to get feedback from [Elmore]," Jaep said. "We have ideas of how to make things better and we need an outlet to do that."
