Greek Week is important to the Greek community, said Laura Parrillo, the advisor of fraternities and sororities. They have sponsored different events for Northeastern and the surrounding community throughout the year and this is their time to get praised for their involvement, she said.
This year, the fraternities and sororities are having a "Battle of the Sexes" and they receive points for each event. The winners are awarded on Friday, said Frank Gianpa, co-chair of Greek Week and part of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
The "powder-puff" football event took place on Columbus field. Each sorority was paired with a fraternity, and Sigma Delta Tau and Pi Kappa Alpha came out on top. The energy was high and there were a lot of people at the event, Maneferini said.
On Sunday, the Greek groups gathered on Centennial Commons to hold their version of the Greek Olympics. The three events included dodge ball, relay races and a word scramble game. The fraternities won the event.
Monday night, with the help of the Council for University Programs (CUP), the Greek groups brought speaker Erin Brockovich to Blackman Auditorium. This event was open to all Northeastern students and it was a major accomplishment for the Greeks.
On Tuesday, the new members of the fraternities and sororities put on a talent show at 7 p.m. in the Curry Student Center (CSC) Ballroom. The different chapters were judged on their creativity and Greek spirit Manafereni said. The sororities were the overall winners.
