SigEp raises the Academic Bar

Tennessee Kappa is not really the only chapter doing anything. They do, however, understand that "he who tooteth not his own horn, geteth not his horn tooted". Maybe it is a coincidence they are loaded with jouralism majors. Maybe not...

Send us your chapter news - especially if it has broad interest - and we will give our best efforts to get the word out.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter at the University of TN at Martin voted unanimously during last night's chapter meeting to raise the GPA requirement for its members.

In the past, the minimum GPA requirement of its members has been a 2.25. After tonight's vote, the chapter's minimum GPA requirement of its members is a 2.50.

The legislation to raise the requirement was drafted and sponsored by Vice President of Member Development, Kevin Teets.

"By raising the GPA requirement of our members we are able to show that our fraternity stands for academic success. This is also a positive step towards our chapter goal of becoming a member of the elite Phi Beta Kappa Wheelhouse," Teets said.

SigEp's chapter GPA average has consistently been higher than that of the all male average. SigEp and its closest academic competitor have competed each semester for first place performance among the fraternities at UTM.

Fraternity President Ryan Hartley says he is glad the chapter has made this decision.

"This semester the fraternity celebrates its 10th year of being chartered on the UTM campus. With this celebration comes an appreciation for the past but also a vision for the future. I am pleased that our chapter is able to raise the bar and continue promoting the Balanced Man Ideals of a Sound Mind and Sound Body."
