Cal Omicron Brother lost in fatal auto accident

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Samuel Parke Massey
January 24, 1984-March 31, 2005

Samuel Parke Massey, a UCLA student and brother in the California Omicron chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, was killed in an auto accident on March 31, 2005. The 21 year old junior will be remembered by his many friends as a consistent source of happiness, derived from his incredibly sophisticated sense of humor.

Samuel Parke MasseySam is survived by his mother Susan, his sisters Clara and Anna (a UCLA alum) and his brothers Daniel and Alan. According to a California Highway Patrol report, Sam and his father Alfonso were on their way back from lunch in Calexico, Calif. when the compact car that Alfonso was driving was struck at an intersection by a work truck. The senior Massey was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident while Sam was taken to Mercy Hospital in San Diego where he
passed away.

Sam, an English major at UCLA, was a brilliant thinker, and was often found engaged in geopolitical discussions with his friends. At Holtville High School, he was a starting offensive lineman on the Viking football team and he played the baritone in the Viking Band of Pride. Sam's trademark was his sense of humor, which was as offbeat and random as it was funny. He will be dearly missed by his family, his friends and his brothers in SigEp.

"You will not find someone that has ever met Sam that doesn't like him,"said David Graham Caso, the president of Sigma Phi Epsilon and a close friend of Sam's. "He could cheer you up with even a brief discussion. There were many days during the year that I lived with him that were made better because Sam was around."

The family suggests that memorials be sent to UNICEF, or to another charity of the donor's choice.
