A little less than 3 months ago we were ecstatic that this labor of love could have garnered 10,000 hits in just 6 months. Never in our wildest imaginings did we expect to double that in half the time since.
We just don't know what to say now that we have broken past the 20K mark. Since February we have steadily increased in readership until we are averaging over 130 hits a day. [A 'hit' is one visit from a single IP address. Multiple page views in one visit are not counted as 'hits'.] The pace of comments, direct communications, and even some 'deep Freeark' sources have increased as well. As the attached chart shows, the pace shows no sign of slowing.
Thank you 20 thousand times for giving us a reason to keep posting.
All this activity tells us we have 'struck a chord' (or is it a nerve?) somewhere in Sig Ep land. We see that people are genuinely interested in what is going on all over the Greek world and not just in their own chapter or school. And not just about Sig Ep. Men of Sigma Phi Epsilon are intelligent and appreciate honest and thoughtful opinions even if they may not agree with them - "Remarks for the good of the order" we used to call it when we were undergraduates. It all seems to be working. As you can see, in the nine months we have been publishing we have had only one month-to-month decline.
As far as we have seen, this endeavor is unique. There does not seem to be another nationally focused fraternity blog - authorized or otherwise - currently running. If anyone knows of one please let us know. We'd like to compare notes. Several brothers have blogs and some of them are really good. We list a few of them in the "blogroll" on the sidebar. Several Sig Ep chapters have good news areas on their chapter sites and that is a good thing too. The key thing we have found, and it is our constant challenge, is to keep things fresh and topical. This applies no matter what kind of site you are running. If people get bored they won't come back.
As you have probably noticed, we have made a decision to speak candidly in the editorial pieces we offer up from time to time. We say things that need to be said so we can notice the elephant in the living room before he grows too big to push out the door. More about that here.
Stick around, we can't promise you will always like what you see here, but we are pretty sure you won't be bored.
...and as always, keep the cards and letters coming!
