Alex from Berkely sends this "Heads up" on a developing situation there. Could this be a repeat of the way that administrators at Colorado shoved 'reforms' on to the Greek community? I hope HQ and the Northern Cal DG are aware of this.
Apparently a party on an excursion boat got out of hand, police were called, and things have gone downhill from there. I reccommend checking those links to the CalStuff blog and the stories they are referring to.

Berkeley greeks are not having a good semester. The Pi Kap issue is still developing. The University is not happy with the fact that IFC hasn't done anything yet. Furthermore, both members of Pi Kap are stil execs on IFC (President and VP or Risk Management). So the University is moving forward of taking away our autonomy and ban any kind of alcohol use on campus, which will include fraternity houses. If this happens you can say goodbye to tailgating with Alumni on game days. Sent: Sunday, May 08, 2005 2:22 AM

Subject: [IFC] IFC Moratorium Emails
Chapter Presidents,
Please immediately forward this email to your members regarding a possible MORATORIUM affecting the Greek Community.
The IFC Executives wrote a letter to Vice Chancellor Genaro Padilla last Thursday requesting a meeting with him. It was the IFC Executives' hope that the Vice Chancellor would meet with Greek leadership before any decisions on moving forward with a possible Greek wide alcohol moratorium was implemented. Unfortunately, the Vice Chancellor has not responded to the letter and the Dean of Students, Karen Kenney, has alluded to the possibility of a moratorium being put into place as early as next week.
Therefore, I am requesting that you and every member of your chapter send an email to: moratorium@lists.berkeley.edu, demanding that before the University makes such an important decision regarding our community, that the administration first meets with Greek leadership to discuss alternative solutions. It would be hard to stop the moratorium once announced, so please have every member in your chapter send an email to moratorium@lists.berkeley.edu with their comments on this before Monday morning.

Thank you for ensuring that our voice as a community is heard.
