10 arrested in 'scavenger hunt'

Thanks to Justin for this tip. There is no mention of a fraternity being involved, but you never know what will come out later.

A scavenger hunt in Selden went drastically awry this weekend, when 10 young men were arrested on charges of stealing bird baths, lawn ornaments, a storm drain grate and accent lights, police said.

The participants in the challenge were given a list of items to collect and whoever brought back the most would win, police said.

Police first encountered two of the men at 11:30 p.m. Saturday near the Suffolk County Police garage in Hauppauge, said Officer Robert Boden. The men also had in their possession a police car license plate, a screwdriver, bolt cutters and a pry hammer, Boden said. A police license plate was on the scavenger hunt list, Boden said.

A police car license plate? That calls for serious cojones.
