Flag debate sparked for smoke and mirrors

Jason Winders in "Online Athens" has some thoughts about the flag-burning amendment and has invoked the spectre of Noah Harris to bolster his argument.
This renewed flag push is nothing more than a desperate smoke-and-mirrors ploy by people who have no answers for the big questions. But they understand as long as our eyes are on the flags not burning instead of the flags draped over soldiers' coffins, then those tough questions won't get asked.

So don't you dare fall for this.

Especially not during a week when we put another boy with local ties in the ground after he fought and died in a war these silk-stocking patriots are finding harder and harder to justify.

Just yesterday, family and friends celebrated the life of Noah Harris, a young soldier who was killed following a rocket-propelled grenade attack on his Humvee while patrolling in Buritz, Iraq.

The 23-year-old Harris, a Sigma Phi Epsilon brother and former University of Georgia cheerleading squad captain, left almost immediately for military training after his 2003 graduation from UGA. He selflessly put aside a dawning future to serve his country.

S&P is not taking a side in the issue. We are noting an occurance of Sigma Phi Epsilon in the news. We would point out that his membership in Sig Ep seems to be accorded as generally positive by association with his other accomplishments.
