UMass suspends fraternity houses

UMass is getting serious about health, fire, and building codes.

AMHERST - Two fraternities closed by town officials in May for fire, health and building violations have been placed on a three-year suspension by the University of Massachusetts.

Alpha Tau Gamma [...] and Sigma Alpha Mu [...] are now closed and forbidden to take part in any activity on or off campus.
[...]
In addition, Sigma Phi Epsilon [...] was closed due to violations, but reopened.
[...]
Gargano (Michael Gargano Jr., vice chancellor for student affairs) pointed to student deaths that occurred this past year in off-campus housing around the country as a reason the town and university are more vigilant about code violations.
