Leach, a 52-year-old dairy farmer, started building the camp, shown in the background of the photo, in 1971, during his senior year of high school.
He remembers the day that Shortsleeve took the photo and was impressed by the fact that his hunting pal managed to pull off such a high-quality shot.
"It was probably mid-day," he said, "and we were ready to go back out to the woods. Dane always had a camera back then and still does. He's a camera nut."
All of the men in the photo, avid deer hunters, were in their mid-20s and four of them, including Leach, were brothers in the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at the University of Vermont.
