At 2:30 Monday morning, Mike Newgard and about a dozen friends spread a row of twin-sized mattresses in front of Gill Coliseum and began their campout.
Armed with sleeping bags, snacks and cases of Bud Light, students from Oregon State University proved their loyalty to the Beavers football team.
"We just want to have the first tickets in the new part of the stadium," said Newgard, a junior majoring in business finance.
When the ticket window opened at 8:30 a.m., they got their wish, securing some of the first of 6,000 available student tickets to the season's opening game.

Josh Cady, a senior majoring in turf grass, and Crystal Johnson, a senior studying horticulture, arrived at 3 a.m. with Wheat Thins, lawn chairs, blankets and pillows.
"We thought we would be the first people in line, but we were about an hour shy," Cady said, referring to Newgard and his friends from Sigma Phi Epsilon and Lambda Chi Alpha fraternities.
