Greeks raise money for cancer

Sig Eps at Lehigh aim to raise $50,000 for cancer research.
Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity held a dinner Wednesday night hosted by Major Gift Officer Jean Farrington to discuss the upcoming 16th Annual Good Scholar Election.

The Good Scholar Election is an annual fundraiser that began in 1990, which grossed $7,000 the first year. Each organization on campus selects one candidate who must have a minimum 3.25 GPA.

The Good Scholar Election benefits cancer research. Over the last 15 years, the Good Scholar Election has collectively raised more than $500,000 for cancer research. The goal this year is to raise approximately $50,000.

Sig Ep members Evan Gyllenhaal, ’06, and Fred Zamparelle, ’08, presented ideas for fundraising for the Good Scholar Election, including a pumpkin toss, raffles, T-shirt sales at football games, a walk-a-thon and even kidnapping.

The idea behind kidnapping is that students have to hold professors hostage until they come up with the money to pay the ransom.

Hmmm. I can think of some folks who would raise more money NOT to let them go.
