Phi Delta Theta house now vacant - The Daily Targum

Ivy Leagues not immune to dumb attacks.......

Nineteen members of the Rutgers chapter of Phi Delta Theta vacated their residence on College Avenue by 7 p.m. yesterday, complying with an eviction order after the fraternity's charter was suspended for three years.

Members of the fraternity declined to comment on the charter suspension.

As personal belongings were moved out, the entire house was abandoned, left littered with garbage, which included magazines, broken glass, and food.

Window blinds were falling off the wall and some doors were off their hinges on the floor. Only a few pieces of disheveled and overturned furniture remained among the disarray.

According to the photographer at the scene, the owner said the mess was caused by a few, not all, of the brothers.

The brothers were seen moving their belongings from the house, located at 66 College Ave., into trucks and cars yesterday, in time for the mandatory 7 p.m. deadline.

The phrases "We were Phi Delta" and "RIP" were inscribed on the house's brick façade.

Last week, the General Council of the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity voted for the suspension, citing repeated violations of the fraternity's alcohol-free housing policy.

In 2000, Phi Delta Theta became the first international social fraternity to adopt such a policy.
