The Chapter of the Week for December 16 2005 is WA Beta - University of Washington
Gosh - after all the publicity who else could it possibly be? Didn't they look good on TV Thursday?
Judge Mitch had this to say about it:
The brothers of Washington Beta did themselves and Sigma Phi Epsilon proud this morning. Their appearances on both the NBC TODAY SHOW and ABC GOOD MORNING AMERICA were the most positive national exposure of SigEp or any fraternity I have seen.Well said, sir. And again, congratulations to a chapter whose hard word is being recognized.
The contrast between the two shows is a good lesson on the influence of the media. The TODAY show interview was serious and respectful...and gave a decent amount of time to the issues. GOOD MORNING AMERICA, on the other had, made a joke about the matter and each and every aspect in its short interview.
The chapter is to be commended for intelligent and honest answers, especially in explaining the Balanced Man Program and countering every mention of "frat" with use of the word "fraternity"
Having visited the chapter house three times between 1990 and 2002, I personally am impressed by the changes in appearance in both the physical structure and members. Hopefully other fraternities at the University of Washington will wake up and learn from the Washington Beta brothers.
