Subject: [IFC] Lifting of the Moratorium
To All IFC and Panhellenic Chapter Presidents,
I am pleased to inform you that the alcohol moratorium has been lifted for all chapters in the Interfraternity Council and College Panhellenic Association on the U.C. Berkeley campus. The lifting of the moratorium for your chapters is a direct result of the efforts made by members of the community in their participation on the Greek Life Taskforce, revisions to the Greek Social Code, a peer monitoring system, implementation of procedures to host on-site alumni events, successful tier one events and most recently, a successful USC weekend including a very well-received neighborhood cleanup.The alcohol moratorium was intended to put a hold on activities with alcohol so that practices could be reviewed and improvements made by implementing procedural and behavioral change. Over the past six months, a great deal of progress has been made. Your efforts have been acknowledged and appreciated by campus administrators, including the Chancellor, city officials and community neighbors. As the Interim Dean, I sincerely thank you for all that you have done.
Sustaining a strong Greek community will require a long term commitment on everyone's part: students, staff, and community partners. I encourage you, as a community, to continue these efforts. Please continue to work closely with the Greek Life staff in the Office of Student Life to sustain the positive changes already achieved and to progress further in improving the community as a whole.
