CLA has not started yet and I am already feeling the love. The hotel was “sold out” of the block rate rooms when I called to make my reservation. (I am too curmudgeonly to share a room.) The best rate they would offer was 65% higher than the Sig Ep friendly rate. Not only that but they are charging for parking. Now, in fairness to all I did wait until the last minute to call – the CLA I’m attending is this weekend – so a very strong argument could be made that it was my own fault. But wait a minute…why didn’t HQ ask for another 10 rooms?
The icing on the cake was finding out they have high speed internet connections in every room – for $10 a day. It sure seems like for the outrageous price I am paying for a room they could at least throw in a little bandwidth. Sheesh.
Yup, I sure am happy to be a Sig Ep Volunteer today. I just can’t wait for the conference call to get all prepped up for the weekend.
When I get to the hotel on Friday, though, I know it will be great to be among friends and brothers again. Like always, there will be too many things to do and too many people to see to fit into one weekend. Oh, and the posted updates too.
S&P will have people in at least 2 of the CLA locations this weekend. So with any luck at all we can get online, real-time comparisons of how things are going. We will have more coverage in the coming weeks too, as the rolling medicine show comes to an overpriced hotel in your region.
The program will follow pretty much the same formulas and scripts, but the people at each location make the difference. Are you going to CLA? Want to help complete the coverage and share the experience with your brothers who can’t make it? Send an email with your impressions. We will post the best ones. (If all you have is “…then Joe got so drunk he tried to hook up with the marble statue of Venus in the lobby”, don’t bother. It’s been done.)
