We're taking our ball and leaving!

Sig Eps at UT-Arlington have quit the IFC over recruitment policy disagreements.
Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity has withdrawn its Interfraternity Council membership, according to a fraternity member and a council representative.

The fraternity withdrew because of conflicting recruitment policies, said Caleb Gremmer, fraternity member and journalism junior.

He said the fraternity participates in continuous open bidding, which means it recruits members year-round instead of just during Rush Week. The council was placing restrictions on the fraternity because of that, Gremmer said.

At the general body meeting Wednesday, a statement written by the fraternity stated that it will no longer be part of the council, said a council representative who wished to remain anonymous because meeting actions are confidential. Gremmer said a copy of the statement was unavailable.

According to the anonymous representative, Sigma Phi Epsilon is in danger of being removed from campus. Neither fraternity members nor Julie Murphy, assistant director of Student Activities in Greek Life, would confirm or deny that.
Stay tuned, this could get "interesting." One of the by-products of stepping out and leading change is being attacked by those who benefit from the old ways.
