Pedal for Life

Alex from Berkeley wanted us to pass this along:

Hey wordjunky,

My chapter is putting together a massive philanthropy project called SigEp Pedals for Life.

On May 22, 2006, members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter at the University of California, Berkeley will begin a 580-mile bicycle journey in honor of remarkable children at the George Mark Children's House. Our brothers from the California Alpha Chapter will ride along the coast of California from San Francisco to Los Angeles on a continuous five-day journey. The physical challenge of this trip is meant to celebrate the resilience, determination, and inspiration shown to us by the children, and throughout the event we will hold them close to our hearts.

The mission of our journey is to raise awareness, compassion, and funding for this amazing organization. The George Mark Children's House provides end of life care, respite support, and transitional care for children with life limiting or terminal illnesses. Services are granted regardless of a family's ability to pay. This facility, located in nearby San Leandro, is the only facility of its kind in the Unites States and is a model for what pediatric care should look like in the future.

Our goal is to raise $3,500 for the George Mark Children's House. We have set an ambitious goal for our first trip, with the intentions of making this an annual fundraiser for many years to come. Please help us to set a precedent in this fundraiser and demonstrate your support of both SigEp and the George Mark Children's House.

It would be great if you could post it on the blog and give us some advertisement so that maybe some sigeps out there could donate to this cause. I know that all the other chapters are doing something similar, but we have been very successful in the past : raising $2000 selling Pumpkins on Halloween every Fall for Youth Aids, raising over $5,000 for Relay for Life in the Spring, and now Pedal for Life in the Summer.

Thanks,

Alex
