Touchdowns Help Kids

Fun, flag football on a spring day, and helping sick children. You just have to feel good about that. ...And the good guys won their division, too.
The teams, gleaned from the University of Iowa's Greek system and other parts of the Iowa City area, threw on their shorts and T-shirts, grabbed their flags and marched onto the field for pride and to help the Children's Miracle Network.

Greek teams [...] made up the bulk of the teams vying for the top prize of footballs signed by UI football coach Kirk Ferentz in the tournament's community, fraternity and sorority divisions. The winners were the Agee Sage team in the community division, Sigma Phi Epsilon in the fraternity group and Kappa Alpha Theta in the sorority division.

For the teams, it was a way to have fun on a sunny day.

"It's a nice day, good day to throw the ball around," said Jay Fabian, 21, a UI junior in finance from Wayzata, Minn., who quarterbacked Sigma Phi Epsilon's team.

Fabian's fraternity brother Phil Basso looked at the time as something to do within the fraternity.

"It a good time to get out with all of our brothers," said Basso, 22, a senior in accounting and finance from Downers Grove, Ill.
The event was sponsored by Alpha Xi Delta and raised over $1000 for CMN.
