So long, and thanks for all the fish

Gentle Readers,

In the year and 9 months that this blog has been running we have seen the readership bloom from a few tens of readers to a point where 250+ in a day is no longer a remarkable number. In April we had over 5500 visits and our grand total is well over 76,000. That is not in the "Instapundit" category, but then again, we appeal to about 250 thousand people rather than 250 million, so it is a matter of perspective. By whatever measure you care to use, I think S&P can be considered a success.

While I have done the lions share of the day to day work, There is a distinguished group of "other names" (see the sidebar) who lend support - and the occasional post. They have been instrumental in shaping the tone and direction of this 'outside the box' effort. The leadership of the Fraternity has gone from ignoring us, to hostility, to grudging acknowledgement, and lately even some level of collaboration. Not a bad evolution for a group where "not invented here" is practically a religious mantra.

With that buildup over it is time to plunge into the reason for this post:

  • I will be taking a hiatus from active daily blogging for a while. Probably for the rest of the year, and maybe longer.

The reason is simple. Bandwidth. I'm out of it. Everyone, it seems, has too much to do and not enough time to do it in and I am no exception. I won't bore you with a litany of all the demands on my time; each of you could probably match or exceed my obligations. I'll simply say I had to examine my priorities and leave it at that.

What does that mean for this blog? Several things:

  • First, S&P is NOT going away. The other members of the blog team will be stepping up to keep things running.
  • Second, They will have their own prioities and 'hot button' issues. While the blog will continue to be about all things Sig Ep, the mix of postings will probably start to look different. That is not a bad thing, it's good to shake things up a bit to make sure everyone is still paying attention
  • Third, a simple and direct challenge/opportunity to the readers.
    • Make the blog your own.
    • Express your agreement or outrage in the comments.
    • Send in news items that may have been missed.
    • Contact the blog posters using the contact email link and let them know how you feel. (Be careful though or you might be invited to join them!)

Fraternally,
WordJunky
