WINDHAM (July 7, 2006): "Music On the Hill" proudly presents A Night of Broadway on Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15. Performances start at 7 p.m. at the Windham Hill United Church of Christ.
Both of these concerts will be dedicated this year to the memory of Bob McLeod, who passed away in January, 2006. McLeod was not only a life-long supporter of the arts, but a member of both Windham Hill UCC, and a member of the Music On the Hill Committee.
The multi-talented performers in A Night of Broadway, including Kelly Caulfield, Bryan McLeod, Jennifer McLeod, Matthew Small and Daniel Strange, are well-known to patrons of "Music On the Hill" and to the greater Portland area.
Kelly Caufield is back home in Maine, after spending eight months in New York City, auditioning and seeing the sights. Besides her performance in two nights of A Night of Broadway, Kelly will be at Good Theater in "Edges," a contemporary new musical in July; "Into the Woods" in October; and "Broadway at the St. Lawrence" in December.
Bryan McLeod returns for a sixth time in A Night of Broadway. Bryan graduated from Lawrence University, with a Voice Performance and History double-major. Bryan's music career includes: a summer at Boston University's Tanglewood Institute; the Windham Chamber Singers; La Boheme, La Traviata, and Rigoletto with the Portland Opera Repertory Theatre; taking second place in the Boston NATS competition; and performing for eight years in the annual Richard Nickerson Scholarship concerts.
Jennifer McLeod has been seen on the stages of Portland Players, PORTopera, Good Theater, Boston Theater Marathon, Carousel Music Theater, and Maine State Music Theater. Jennifer has appeared on the History Channel as Mary Walcott in Witch Hunt; and as host of Maine's UPN and WB's Maine Kids' Show. A featured soloist with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Jennifer currently hosts their KinderKonzerts. She also was the 1998 recipient of the prestigious Lillian Nordica Award. Both Jennifer and Bryan sang at the 2006 Richard Nickerson Scholarship concert in January, which was dedicated in memory of their father, Bob McLeod.
Matthew Small returns to his hometown for a fifth year with Music on the Hill. Matthew's credits include: Cabaret (Emcee), Tommy (Tommy), ...Forum (Hero), The Memorandum (Ballas), Bent (Greta), 1776 (Courier), Songs for Change, NYC Gay Men's Chorus, The Maine Steiners, Point Sebago Revue, Windham Chamber Singers, and sing-a-longs in his SigEp Fraternity house. He has worked in public relations and marketing in Maine and New York theatres. Having graduated from Windham High School (1998) and UMaine (2002), Matthew will earn a master's in counseling from UMaine in May 2007.
Daniel Strange returns to A Night of Broadway as director and producer - and now accompanist this year. He is majoring in Jazz Studies at the USM, and has studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Honors and Awards include the Ralph Gould award, a two-time Louis Armstrong Jazz Award winner, the Richard Nickerson Scholarship Grant, the Emily K. Rand Piano Scholarship, a two-time USM honors recital performer, and the Nathan E. Corning Jazz Prize. Daniel is the Minister of Music at the North Windham Union Church. In a 2005 USM exchange program, he traveled to Greece with Professor Bill Street to teach and perform jazz. He has studied or performed with such artists as Dr. Richard Nickerson, Thomas Bucci, Dr. Eph Ely, John Rutter, Laszlo Gardony, Ben Street, David Baker, James Abbuhl, Andy Williams, and Jodi Benson.
