SGA officers for 2006-07 announced

Brian N. Gay, a Wyoming, Ohio, graduate student, has been elected president of Morehead State University’s Student Government Association. He will be the student representative on MSU’s Board of Regents for the 2006-07 academic year.

Student government is a very effective tool for student advocacy on campus, in the community, and across the state, according to Gay. “Our mission in SGA is to improve the quality of the college student experience. I encourage all students to bring their thoughts, comments and concerns to us. We are here to serve as the voice of the students,” he said.

Around campus, Gay is active in Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity, Gamma Beta Phi honor society, and Students for Progressive Change. He has been involved with SGA for several years and previously held positions as vice president for public relations and commuter representative.

A sociology major with an emphasis in regional analysis and public policy, Gay graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in May. He is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration degree with an emphasis in regional analysis and public policy.

Gay, the son of Craig and Amy Gay, is a senior supervisor for Kaman’s Art Shoppes Inc. (KAS). During the past seven years, he has conducted operations for KAS at both Paramount’s Kings Island and the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.

Also elected as executive officers of SGA were:
Executive vice president--Daimeon M. Cotton of Hopkinsville. Former vice president and now president of the Black Gospel Ensemble, he is vice president and treasurer for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

Vice president for administration--Colby T. Owens, the son of Terry and Helen Owens, is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in management. Originally from Cincinnati, he came to Morehead State as a transfer student.

Owens is active in Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and attends 342/BCM, a religious organization on campus. His hobbies include singing and weightlifting.

Vice president for finance--Sarah E. Sharp, a Hamilton, Ohio, senior social studies major. The daughter of Jeffrey and Sue Sharp, she served as SGA’s Greek representative last year.

A Dean’s List student, Sharp is a member of Kappa Delta social sorority, Kappa Delta Pi education honorary, and Phi Sigma Pi national honor fraternity where she is currently serving as the scholarship committee chair.

Vice president for public relations--SeaHierra D. Dilley, a junior marketing and business information systems major from Beavercreek, Ohio. The daughter of Lori and John Dilley, she is an active member of Gamma Phi Beta social sorority.

Vice president for campus involvement--Kimberly M. Barker, a senior elementary education major from Franklin, Ohio. The daughter of Harold and Tammy Barker, she is secretary of Kappa Delta social sorority and a member of the College Republicans.
