Texas Delta (Houston) Chapter President Tommy Kirby was recently recognized by the USAF Reserve for his contribution to the success of a recent exercise at Ellington Field-Houston.
"Staff Sergeant Thomas L. Kirby distinguished himself by outstanding achievement as the Marshalling Team Chief for the 147 Fighter Wing, Cargo Deployment Function from 05 to 16 April 2005, Ellington Field, Houston, Texas. During this period, Sergeant Kirby demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities that enabled him to manage a diverse group of individuals while remaining levelheaded during times of high stress, as meeting close deadlines was often necessary.
"Sergeant Kirby maintained a high level of situational awareness and quickly identified and delivered vital equipment to its necessary destination. His enthusiasm and energy to get the task done proved to be contagious to his peers and this enabled his team to maintain a high level of professionalism that led to an extremely successful Phase I. He continually provided inspiration and support to his team as morale was maintained at its highest degree. He kept a positive attitude through periods of rough weather and continually worked long hours to ensure that necessary tasks were properly completed.
"His guidance and willingness to train new team members ensured the success of the overall mission, which was instrumental in allowing the 147th FW to achieve the successful rating that it received during the ORI. Tommy serves as Chapter President, carries a full semester load, maintains a 3.0 + GPA, is putting himself through school at UHouston, and maintains his commitment to the USAF. He represents SigEp well.
