"Race For the Cure" in D.C.

(updated 4-13)

Join the SigEp Feds in June for the annual Race for the Cure Saturday June, 2nd!

For those of you who are unaware, the Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure is one of more than 100 Races to be held nationwide in 2007. Each year, a minimum of $1 million raised from the Susan G. Komen National Race funds breast health and breast cancer programs in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland. The remaining dollars support the Komen Award and Research Grant Program, which has invested more than $180 million dollars over the past 25 years in groundbreaking breast cancer research.

Though breast cancer has a very small chance of affecting us as men directly, there is a very strong chance that it will affect someone in your life. This year the SigEp Feds Board has decided to participate in this simple, yet extremely effective fundraiser for cancer research. The cost is minimal at $40 and we encourage for you to invited friends and loved ones to join our team (click link above). Also, it is very easy for people to donate money to our team, which has set a fundraising goal of $500, by clicking here.

Right now, we have a goal of 30 people for our team, but with the number of people in this area, I'd love to see it over 50. Thanks for your time and expect to hear from me again in the coming weeks and months.

Kirk says that breast cancer "has a very small chance of affecting us as men directly". Small, but not zero. My co-worker's husband is a breast cancer survivor, so it does happen. When I heard his story 3 years ago I decided to run in the Houston "Komen Run" (our race is in September) and have continued to support it each year.

Last Christmas I learned that one of my sisters had been diagnosed as well, so now I have another reasons to support the run. She is doing well, as they caught it early, but it is still a tough reality.

I encourage the SigEp Feds' efforts and hope that everyone will support them.
