ALLENDALE - Students at Grand Valley State University held a special event Saturday night. Rock Against Rape is in its 6th year, and as the name shows, it's far from the typical lecture raising awareness about sexual assault.GVSU Rocks Against Rape - FOX 17
Instead, hundreds of students show up and enjoy bands and free food, all while learning more about stopping sexual assault. Organizers say the relaxed atmosphere helps bring up a topic that can be tough to talk about. The event is sponsored by Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternit and the group Eyes Wide Open, a resource for survivors.
According to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lives and college-aged women are four times more likely to be assaulted.
