"Hall Brawls is just a huge philanthropy event that is the best way to get all the freshmen dorms together for a lot of fun." As promised by Sig Ep Brother Bobby Truppner, the event was a hit. The goal of the event was to raise money for Sigma Phi Epsilon's national charity, YouthAIDS.

Kyle Ingram, the director of the event, estimated that they raised between seven hundred and eight hundred dollars for the organization. The money was raised when freshmen signed up to participate. Each participant paid $8 for a shirt, barbeque food, and of course, joining their residence halls in an afternoon of outdoor games.

Also helping out at the event was Delta Phi Epsilon, Up Til Dawn, WCPR, and Entertainment Committee. There were three planned tournaments: volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, and tug-of-war. During the course of these games there was a spontaneous dance competition open to all competitors. Denis Barberena of 4th Floor Hayden took the prize of a few boxes of candy for his dance moves. For the main events, floors of freshmen competed in simple elimination rounds of each event. The winners of the tournament were awarded points depending on ranking; whichever team had the most points at the end won the Hall Brawls overall. Third place started with 5 points, second with 10, and first with 15 points. The champion could then challenge the SigEp team for an extra 5 points. In the end it was a five way tie with 15 points between 2nd Floor Davis, 4th Floor Davis South, 4th Floor Davis North, 3rd Floor Davis, and 4th Floor Hayden. The team able to pull out ahead of the others was 4th Floor Hayden. By beating the SigEp Team as well as the rest of the dorm teams in Ultimate Frisbee, they scored an extra five points which put them in first place. The winner of the volleyball tournament, 4th Floor Davis South, came close to beating the SigEp team with a score of 13-15. The girls of 3rd Floor Davis, the underdogs in the competition, managed to win the Tug-of-War tournament, but lost with a valiant effort to the SigEp team. Even teams that did not place had fun playing and cheering on their friends. Overall the afternoon was seen as a success not only because the day was full of excitement and competition, but because money was raised to support YouthAIDS as well.
