The New Journal is Here

The Latest issue of the SigEp Journal is here.

This issue is dedicated to all the SigEps who have served in the Armed Forces over the years since the fraternity was founded. (I am proud to be in that number.)

There is also a nice two page spread on the LinkedIn SigEp group and how it is helping brothers to network and find professional opportunities.

On technical item. This issue online has active links in the articles so you can jump to the referenced web page or article directly from the reader.

SigEp Brother Killed in Action in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the SigEp Patriots Project announces the loss of the first SigEp in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan.

TN Eta Brother Captain Joshua Sean Lawrence, U.S. Army from Nashville, Tennessee was 29 years of age and assigned to 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Carson, CO.

Brother Lawrence died 08 OCT in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan from wounds caused by a rocket propelled grenade. Our prayers to go out to his family, friends, chapter brothers and comrades.

Update:
An article from a Nashville TN TV Station
http://www.wsmv.com/story/15657946/nashville-native-killed-in-afghanistan-attack

The news of another soldier killed in Afghanistan became all too personal for Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity brother Brandon Savage. He said by phone Monday, "This is someone's brother. This is someone's husband. This is someone's child. It really hits close to home. I don't have a memory in college where we weren't laughing or something," Savage said.

"When I joined Sig Ep, he was one of the upperclassmen at that time and one of the guys that everyone looked up to," Savage explained.

Today Show Link "Pedros" story

From "SigEpVet" and "Pedro" (combat paramedic), Capt. Jeff Lehmkuhl.
ALCON,

The link below is a pretty good depiction of what it is we do during wartime operations (CSAR).  The newscaster flew with me during the footage so many of the missions shown were executed by my crew.  Many of you ask what I do and a picture is worth a thousand words....

Enjoy!

SigEp Bro. Capt. Jarod Overton USMC Wounded in Afghanistan

"Mom" Nonnie posted this first on her Facebook "Wall" and Renato Vilacorte has passed it on to the SigEp Vets. We are posting here to get maximum outreach.
We have just learned that an Indiana Alpha Alumnus, Marine Captain Jarod N. Overton, was recently wounded by a roadside IED in Afghanistan. He is recovering in a hospital with broken ribs and fragment wounds. Sketchy news sources say that they were in an MRAP and it saved their lives.

Please keep our Brother in your prayers and forward his mailing address to everyone who may care to send him notes of encouragement.

Jarod N. Overton, USMC 3/11
Unit 41630 FPO AP
96427-1630

Thanks to Mom Nonnie for notifying us.
Thanks to all others who forward this to their SigEp mailing lists.

Fraternally,
Renato G. Villacorte
Co-Chair Sig Ep Vets

Frat Boys in Kabul? Morning Joe thinks so.

My first thought on seeing the footage was "Where's Ed Jones?" but I'm sure he's out in the boonies doing real war stuff.

Seriously, politics aside, I was dismayed to find this behavior compared to stereotypical "Frat Boy" antics. Sadly, though, the pictures could have come from any number of Facebook page pictures or YouTube videos of Greek parties we have seen over the years. Maybe he has a point. The more important question is "What can we do to improve the Greek image?"

Oh, be sure to check the "Lord of the Flies" link to read more.
