Det. Sgt. Geron Wade of the Missoula police said Dirnberger opted not to press charges and just requested the missing items be returned. Police paid Sigma Phi Epsilon a visit that evening and the fraternity’s members confessed to the theft.
Thirty minutes after the police were called, Streets said, members of Sigma Phi Epsilon returned the missing furniture and memorabilia to the house.
“As soon as they found out we knew about it, they promptly returned the couches,” he said. The men of Sigma Phi Epsilon chipped in to return the pilfered items, calling it a fraternity prank, he said.
“We didn’t think it was so funny,” Streets said. “It would have been hilarious had we been living there.”
