Gotta Know When to Hold 'em. Sig Ep Poker Night Draws a Crowd

The Utah USU-SEC Sig Ep Poker Tourament drew a larger-than-expected crowd of over 200 and raised nearly $2500 for YouthAids.

Sigma Phi Epsilon member Jared Westbroek said he knew poker was popular, but turnout exceeded all expectations as players spread across 20 tables jammed into the Sage Room of USU's Taggart Student Center.
"At Utah State, there's kind of a subculture that plays Texas Hold'em off and on throughout the week," Westbroek said, "so we thought we'd take the opportunity to tap into a resource to help raise money for Youth AIDS."

The charity card tournament is the first major event sponsored by the Sigma Phi Epsilon since it was re-established at USU after being dormant since 1998.
Westbroek said the fund-raiser was so successful that the frat plans to try it again at the same time next year, but in a much larger room.
