Quick action helps mitigate alcohol poisoning at Chico State fraternity house

While a Chico fraternity is on suspension pending investigations into the severe alcohol overdose of a teenage college student, Chico police are crediting its members with saving the young man's life.

Released Saturday into the care of his parents, Richard Amador was placed on a respirator at Enloe Medical Center two days earlier. He'd been rushed there by members of the Sigma Chi fraternity, who found the freshman pledge unconscious.

"They literally saved this guy's life," said Chico police officer Dave Genova. "If they didn't take him to the hospital, the kid would be dead."
