In addition to the dinner, the fraternity members attended festivities in Chinatown on Wednesday, the start of the Chinese New Year. The events included a parade, martial arts demos, dances and the lighting of a five-story firecracker.
Sigma Phi Epsilon chose to organize a Chinese New Year celebration to embrace the fraternity's cultural diversity, Sigma Phi Epsilon President Dave Frenkil said. Four of the fraternity's 105 members were born in Hong Kong.

"Being in D.C., there are many students from different countries and different faiths. We try to honor that diversity through different celebrations," Frenkil said.
Last year, Sigma Phi Epsilon also held its first traditional Passover Seder. The ceremonial dinner is held on the first and second nights of Passover, a commemoration of the Jews' exodus from Egypt.
