Western Michigan Sig Ep Chapter collects $32,000 for tsunami aid

Western Michigan University's chapter of Sigma Pi Epsilon will be donating a collection of $32,000 to The Greater Kalamazoo Area Chapter of the American Red Cross to help with the damage caused by the Indian Ocean tsunami.

"For five days straight, we stood by the flag poles asking people to donate money," said Jonathan Meyer, president of the WMU chapter of Sigma Pi Epsilon.

He said many WMU students were happy to give to the cause. He also said his fraternity explored other ways to help out, but was informed that raising money was the most effective way to help.

"We looked into donating food, but the Red Cross said that collecting cash donations would be the best way to go."
