Greek t-shirt slogans causing controversy

Tacky and politically incorrect, but funny.
Fraternity and sorority T-shirt slogans are coming under the scrutiny of Virginia Tech’s Panhellenic Council, according to council members.

Sean Tilley, a sophomore in Sigma Phi Epsilon and business management major, said he doesn’t agree with a potential ban on offensive T-shirts.

“I’m in a women’s studies class and my roommate gave a presentation with his “We score between periods” shirt and no one said anything,” Tilley said.

One slogan from the fraternity Delta Chi reads “We don’t need tractors to pull hoes.”

Michelle Dillon, president of the Panhellenic Council, would not elaborate on the council’s plans concerning such T-shirts.

“We have recommendations in the works for fraternities and sororities who have been wearing these shirts, but it is in a completely discussion format right now,” she said

“I do not think that Panhellenic should be allowed to tell anyone what they can and cannot wear,” said Christina Lusby, a sophomore communications major in Alpha Chi Omega. “We are on a public campus and have the freedom to wear what we want.”

Although Lusby feels that there should be no ban due to student’s rights, she thinks that some of the shirts are rude and can be degrading.

“Those shirts make them look stupid and I think less of their organization when I read them. They are only hurting themselves,” Lusby said.

The Panhellenic Council will continue to work to settle this controversial situation.

“We feel that it is a situation that will be handled by our Greek community,” Dillon said.
