Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity hosted a luncheon for non-Greek organizations on Friday to urge them to join the Good Scholar Election.
Evan Gyllenhaal, ’06, chairman of the Good Scholar Election; Fred Zamparelle, ’08, assistant chair of the election; and former professor Dr. Cohen presented the ideas and process behind the Good Scholar Election.
The main objective of the election, raising money to help the fight against cancer, was discussed in great detail at the luncheon.
Cohen said one in three people will be diagnosed with cancer at one point in their lives. Even though 66 percent of people diagnosed survive, which is an increase from previous years, five million people were diagnosed with cancer in 2002.
Cohen urged the non-Greek organizations to be creative with their fundraising ideas. He also told them to recognize that it will inevitably be harder for non-Greeks to collaborate and brainstorm, because they don’t see each other on a regular basis as Greeks do. He urged the students to join the effort and “do something and feel good.”
We may have wondered this before, but the name is so unusual... is Evan related to Jake and Maggie? (no extra charge for non-sequitors)
