Austin CLA - Final Thoughts and a Rumor

Well, another CLA is over and those of us who were 'faculty' get to go back to the real world. (For those of you who wandered in off the street - CLA is "Carlson Leadership Academy", a training weekend for Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter officers.)

The best "M.C. Joke" of the weekend:
What did the fish say when he swam into a wall?
"Dam!"

Last night's "Gala Awards Dinner": Everyone had just come from a very well done Renaissance of Brotherhood initiation and we were dressed in coats and ties. So what were we served? Fajitas and tamales. I know we are in Texas, but - drippy grease factor aside - does that really spell "CLASS"? The awards themselves were pretty straightforward. I was too busy wiping salsa juice off my pants to write down all the recipients, but there was one special award. Matt (sorry didn't catch the last name) from Texas Alpha was selected for the "Quest to Greece". A 10-day tour of the birthplace of western philosophy sponsored by the Educational Foundation.

After dinner we repaired to the hotel bar, since the "no chemicals" prohibition was no longer in effect, and proceeded to deconstruct the weekend over libateous(?) lubrication. The opinions were split about evenly between the volunteers who gushed over what a grand job HQ is doing and those who swear we are headed down the tubes if things don't change.

In short, a typical CLA.

Again, I was impressed by the quality and dedication of the young men who show up at these events. True, they probably leave the trolls back home. Still, with these guys as leaders something good is bound to happen.

Readers who were also there - Please feel invited to comment.
Correct me; fill in the names I forgot; fill in things I didn't see; call me bad names; whatever. I am not a trained reporter - I don't even play one on the internet.

One last thing: HOT RUMOR...
Significant changes in the HQ staff organization. The Volunteer Coordinator area is being beefed up with another "weighty" person shifting from other duties into that area. Others are shuffling around to take on additional tasks to fill in the gaps. Watch for the announcements.
