Winning the coveted title for best fraternity statue this year was Delta Sigma Phi for its spectacular evocation of the world of Aladdin. A scene straight from an Arabian bazaar, complete with dancing elephants and towered over by Fatimid minarets, the sculpture gained points for both its ambitious scale and its finely crafted details.
Second place in the category went to Tau Kappa Epsilon, which recreated the world of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas directly in front of the Admin Building, and third went to Phi Kappa Tau for its creation entitled “When Gotham’s Under Attack, Batman’s Got its Back.” The Phi Tau entry can be seen next to its house, on West Quincy St. in Hancock. Sigma Phi Epsilon’s artful action scene from Toy Story was a crowd favorite, and finished fourth in the fraternity division, while fifth place Sigma Tau Gamma’s near life-size recreation of a brontosaurus and its Flintstone friends stopped traffic throughout the weekend.
