On Monday, April 17th, Christopher Newport University kicked off its 2006 Greek Week with a bang. SigEp Order of the Golden Heart recipient Judge Mitch Crane visited the campus and conducted a talk entitled "Perception versus Reality". The talk focused on the perceptions held by the non-Greek community about Greeks and how those perceptions developed. Judge Mitch offered the crowd several cases of how hazing and alcohol abuse that have found their way into the courtroom and the media.
Brother Crane challenged the Greek community to unify based on a common theme shared by all organizations, that of freely choosing to bind themselves to live life by a higher standard. He emphasized the value of working together and encouraging each other to live by the values expressed in their own respective ritual. Through this support and accountability, he asserted, the Greek community can help to transform negative perceptions into a positive reality.
Following the presentation, Judge Mitch visited the Virginia Pi chapter house for a personal visit with the brothers.
