JOHN J. WATKINS | THE TIMES
Valparaiso University students in the Sexual Assault Awareness and Facilitative Education program gathered pictures and quotes from a cross-section of the campus and made a bulletin board in the student union. Fraternities and sororities at the university serve as SAAFE houses and Empowerment houses, respectively.
Valparaiso students have formed a rape and sexual assault awareness group. Sig Eps are helping out.
A massive bulletin board in the lobby of the Valparaiso University student union last week made the message of SAAFE clear: We will not tolerate rape on our campus.

The group picked prominent students, such as Amy Stark, an academic notable, and Tamra Braun, a basketball player, and put pictures and quotations about the subject.

"Everyone looks up to these people," said James Crowley, a sophomore from Ohio who helped with the board.

"You believe in them and their power to change things," added Karen Morrill, a sophomore from Washington.

In addition to the bulletin board, some Greek houses serve as SAAFE houses. At Crowley's Sigma Phi Epsilon house, they have five guys in yellow shirts police each dance party at the house. The fraternity also requires students to attend seminars about sexual assault.
Personal note: WJ has 3 sisters, and 3 daughters. This is a BFD.
