$$ The cost of Hazing $$

Everything you do in life has consequences. So goes it for the many "rites of passage" in which fraternities, sororities, athletic teams, and other organizations feel coerce their new members to participate. The need to belong, to be part of a group, to conform, is overpowering to most people. It is the trust of those claiming to be your friend that takes some to an untimely death or maiming injury. More often than not responsible judgment is clouded by the effects of drugs and alcohol and leads to a tragedy. We cannot control all things in this existence we call life, but, there are some things that can be controlled if we only stop and think about the fragility of human life before we engage in risky behavior or we coerce someone who literally trusts us with their own life to engage in risky behavior. Families of students who die after drinking at fraternity events have collected millions of dollars in wrongful-death lawsuits from the fraternities and their members. Occasionally, even a university is held liable and tagged with a multimillion-dollar settlement.
