For Immediate Release -

The following just came across our editorial desk from Brother Dave Calderon, sitting District Governor (DG25) for Southern California:

  • Brothers:

Before you hear it from someone else, I wanted to let you know that I have informed HQ that I will not seek another term as District Governor when my current term expires with the Nashville Conclave. I have had an incredible six year run as DG here in Southern California, but it is time to pass the torch to someone who will take the foundation we have built here and drive it to the next level.

I began my "volunteer journey" as an overworked young lawyer back in 1993. I spent six of the best years of my life as a chapter counselor before being "tapped up" to the DG position in June 1999. I never envisioned being anything other than a Chapter Counselor, but I have been blessed to be selected to be a DG. The last thing I want to do is pass my "buy/sell" date and just be a picture on a website. This is not the end of my journey, it is just the beginning of a new phase.

What I am going to miss most in leaving this position is the camraderie that I enjoy with you guys, the hard fought wins (and losses), and the mentor relationship I have enjoyed with our travelling staff. I have worked chapter rooms from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, and I have learned so much from all of you along the way.

I look forward to seeing you in Nashville and thanking you personally for what you have contributed to my life experience. After Nashville, I look forward to my continued work as a Sig Ep volunteer.

    Fraternally,
    Dave Calderon

Dave has excelled in the ranks of alumni volunteers. He has been there for his chapters and never hesitated to demonstrate a presence - which speaks well for alumni volunteers and covers up many of the trangressions of HQ staff. He has been an advocate for quality chapter operations and placed great worth on the Cardinal Tenets of the Fraternity.

We at S&P know that you when you no longer wear the mantle of District Governor, that your chapters will continue to seek your counsel and advise. We also know that this will not be a "retirement" but hopefully the opening of other venues for your valuable service to the Fraternity.

We at S&P take our hats off to you and know that your successor will have big shoes to fill. We would also throw you a big party, but we still haven't received our grant check from the Educational Foundation or the HQ.
