A Message from SigEp - Email updates.

With communication becoming ever more electronic in nature it is important to keep to organizations that are important to us up to date on how to stay in touch.

I received this email today, maybe you did too. If you did see it, make sure it went to the 'right' address and update you information at HQ if needed. If you didn't see it your email address at HQ may be old or incorrect. You NEED to update it.

Dear Bryce, When you joined SigEp at Tennessee Alpha, your membership fees covered a lifetime subscription to the Journal.  Unfortunately, many of your chapter bothers— maybe even you— miss out on the opportunity to read about the great things that SigEps are accomplishing because of an outdated mailing address. Our spring issue of the Journal will be mailed in just a few weeks, and our theme for this issue is legacies.  Legacies provide a unique opportunity to see how our great history is inextricably linked to our present and future.  In addition to featured stories about family connections within our brotherhood, the springJournal is your connection to alumni and chapter news, from Tennessee Alpha and nationwide. I want to make sure that you and all Tennessee Alpha brothers receive a copy of this award-winning publication. Please take two minutes to update your contact information in order to receive this issue. Caution - Changes coming to S&P

When we started this blog in 2004 the world of blogging was much more basic than it is now. The design of our site was adequate for the time but there are more capabilities and more tools to make sites work faster, stronger, better.  So, after 7 years it is past time to shake things up, repaint the walls, and rearrange the funiture. 

Blogger has added a boatload of features in that time. I had gone to outside resources to set up some of those services (like the "peekaboo" posting feature). Now that I can do them in Blogger I won't have to worry so much about "future-proofing". 

I am also planning to incorporate some more pages - for instance an "About" page, and maybe a "Helpful Links" page, and so on. Extra pages are another recently added feature I have not used yet. They will allow for a cleaner and more focused main posting area.

You will see the changes happen starting very soon. Don't be alarmed if you see a different layout every few days for a while. This is going to be a work in progress but the progress will be toward a sit that better meets the needs of today's SigEp.

 

Anyway, I am open to suggestions for layout, design, colors, pictures, background, fonts, or anything else so if you have an idea let me hear about it. Don't be shy. if you know of a really neat feature some other site is using we are happy to shamelessly copy if it works here. Leave a comment, send an email, tweet (@sigepblog) post on Facebook, send smoke signals, whatever. 

Posting Comments - an upgrade

One of the best parts of editing the blog is seeing the comments that readers make on the posts. Some posts that we think will start a civil war get no comments at all, while others that would seem to be low impact become platforms for those with strongly held views to argue back and forth.

We have used a third party service to host comments because when we started the Blogger versions were not very flexible or user friendly. That third party - Haloscan - has been acquired by JS_Kit, and they are in the process of transitioning to an even better commenting experience.

We have just finished upgrading the S&P account so you will see a different look and feel for the comments. Starting today (now), any new comments will have additional features available: rich text, You-tube embedding, picture uploads, and lots more. We also will be able to turn on authentication and moderation, should the need arise.

Since the capabilities are new, you may see some tweaks and changes in the look and behavior of comments as we get used to the administration features. Overall I believe this will result in a better web site and more useful interaction for all our loyal readers.

Update on SDSU Drug Raids

SDSU Lifts Interim Suspension on Three Fraternities
SAN DIEGO

San Diego State University has lifted the interim suspension from three campus fraternities, the university announced today.

After a review of case details, SDSU Vice President for Student Affairs James Kitchen lifted the interim suspension from the Phi Kappa Theta, Sigma Alpha Mu and Sigma Alpha Epsilon
fraternities. The suspension was lifted after an administrative review found that those arrested in connection to the controlled substances investigation were either inactive members of the fraternity and/or were not presently residents of chapter houses.

The three fraternities had been placed on suspension based on each having a single member arrested on felony charges. However, the university review found that there was not sufficient information to implicate the fraternity chapter as a whole.

Three other fraternity chapters, including Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Kappa Psi and Theta Chi, are still on interim suspension pending further investigation by SDSU.
