State colleges and universities will have to notify parents of students who are disciplined for alcohol or drug violations. An aside: I knew Roy Herron when we were at Tennessee in the '70s. He is a good ol' boy in the best sense of the term and has always been politically active. I was a Republican back then (I got better) but he has always been a 'yellow dog' Democrat and proud of it.
Gov. Phil Bredesen signed the measure last week. It applies to students who are younger than 21 years old.
